Eating Disorder Therapy

Understanding the Person Behind the Eating Disorder

Eating disorders can become powerful ways of coping with emotions, stress, relationships and feelings about ourselves.

While food and weight may appear to be the problem, they are often only part of a much deeper struggle.

Many clients describe feeling trapped between self-criticism, perfectionism, shame and a constant need to feel in control.

Conditions I Work With

Anorexia Nervosa

Restrictive eating, weight loss, fear of weight gain and intense self-criticism.

Bulimia Nervosa

Cycles of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviours such as purging, over-exercising or restriction.

Binge Eating Disorder

Repeated episodes of loss of control around food, often followed by guilt and shame.

Disordered Eating

Food-related behaviours that significantly affect wellbeing but may not meet diagnostic criteria.

Looking Beyond Food

My work focuses on understanding:

  • Emotional regulation

  • Self-worth

  • Shame

  • Perfectionism

  • Attachment patterns

  • Identity and relationships

Together we explore what the eating disorder may be trying to achieve emotionally and how healthier alternatives can be developed.

My Approach

I integrate psychotherapy, CBT, ACT, Transactional Analysis, attachment theory and psychoanalytic thinking.

My background in physical health, movement and wellbeing also provides an understanding of how mind and body influence one another.
